10.03.2025 by Konstantin Köhler

Since the start of 2025, larger non-residential buildings must comply with the requirements of the German Building Energy Act (GEG). Recogizer provides a TÜV-certified, GEG-compliant solution—not only ensuring compliance but also automatically reducing energy consumption.

The impact of the GEG is clear: an increasing number of customer inquiries are no longer just about reducing energy consumption but also about ensuring compliance.

As of this year, larger non-residential buildings must be equipped with digital energy monitoring technology in accordance with § 71a GEG. The requirements depend on the building's size—if the total heating or cooling capacity exceeds 290 kilowatts, GEG regulations apply.

For most existing buildings, meeting the requirements of paragraph (2) is sufficient. Buildings must be equipped with digital energy monitoring technology that allows for:

  1. Analysis and monitoring of consumption for primary energy sources (electricity, gas, heating oil, etc.) and building services systems (heating, ventilation, air conditioning).
  2. Access to collected data through a common, freely configurable interface.
  3. Defining target values for the building’s energy efficiency.
  4. Detection of efficiency losses.
  5. Insights into potential energy efficiency improvements.

Additionally, an energy management representative—either an individual or a company—must be designated to oversee continuous improvement.
